The White Truffle hunting (Tuber Magnatum Pico) is officially open. As every year, on the last Sunday of September, the harvest of the most precious truffle that grows in our woods begins. The white truffle prefers a wooded environment particularly rich in humus. It grows in symbiosis with certain plants such as oaks, holm oaks, willows and poplars, soils with high amounts of calcium and a constant humidity rate for most of the year. Its recognition is clear considering the harvest period, moreover externally it is smooth to the touch and velvety, with shades ranging from cream to ocher yellow, while the interior is light with brown veins. Its scent has characteristic notes of honey, garlic and that intense, wild scent of the undergrowth typical of mushrooms, reminiscent of typically autumnal environments drenched with rain and fallen leaves from trees. Among the varieties it is the best known and appreciated internationally and therefore also more expensive given its rarity. The territory of Pietralunga is rich in all types of truffles that are given to us by our extraordinary nature all year round, and now, until the end of December, we will have this special underground mushroom to keep us company.
